We don’t sell white sliced bread at tāst eatery. It’s my hope one day to eliminate white bread from the menu. It amazes me how often parents come in and tell me that their child only eats white bread. At about 3 years old my daughter started out with ciabatta bread. A tough bread even for some adults, but my girl tackled it with her little teeth no problem. We tried giving her multi grain bread, but she would not accept it. It took persistence, but she eventually grew to like it. It took 2 years, but we eventually got her to start eating it.
She is a child after all, so there are many new things she just doesn’t want to try. However, at least now it’s possible to have a discussion with her and bribe her into trying new things. As parents I believe we need to be persistent about teaching our children different things, especially when it comes to eating these days, food after all is the foundation to our lives. It sometimes takes 10 or 20 times asking my daughter to try something before she tries it and if she doesn’t like it, I ask her another 10 or 20 times to try it before I accept that she doesn’t like something. Believe it or not, they tend to eventually like something even if they didn’t at first. After all, even I didn’t start eating onions until I was in high school.
